Gaz Métro is the principal distributor of natural gas in Quebec. It serves about 180,000 customers through its underground distribution system that extends over more than 10,000 km.

It is also one of the four largest natural gas distributors in Canada.
In northeastern portion of North America
The company has been active in the energy sector in New England since 1986 and its subsidiaries, Vermont Gas Systems, the only natural gas distributor in Vermont, and Green Mountain Power Corporation, the second-largest electricity distributor in the State, together employ more than 300 employees.
Natural Gas Transportation
Gaz Métro owns 50% of TransQuébec & Maritimes Pipeline Inc (TMQ). It is a minority shareholder (38.3%) in Portland Natural Gas Transmission System (PNGTS), a gas pipeline that transports natural gas from Lachenaie, north of Montreal, to the USA . It also owns 100% of Champion Pipe Line Ltd., which operates two gas pipelines in Abitibi. It also owns a 50% interest in the Intragaz group, which operates underground natural gas storage facilities.
Energy and Underground Services
Through one of its subsidiaries, Gaz Métro offers sales, rental, financing and maintenance services for natural gas equipment.It also provides natural gas transportation and storage for distributors, carriers and customers.
Gaz Métro makes use of its know-how to pursue energy-related or underground activities by selling goods and services in the energy and fibre optics fields and offers diagnostic and rehabilitation services for water and wastewater systems through the following companies:
A Promising Future
Over the past 20 years, Gaz Métro has grown steadily. During this period, the market share of natural gas in the Quebec energy equation has grown from 7.7% to 16.4%. Natural gas is the thermal energy best suited to ensure the transition toward the sustainable development of the industrialized countries.
