To meet the demand and ever-growing popularity of natural gas in Québec, the Gaz Métro gas grid grows each year. This grid is currently made up of 850 km of transmission pipelines and 8,300 km of distribution pipelines.
Following is a preview of a few major projects that will extend the Gaz Métro natural gas transmission network:
Bringing together Gaz Métro, Enbridge and GDF SUEZ (formerly Gaz de France), three leaders in the transportation and distribution of natural gas, the Rabaska project consists of the construction of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal east of Lévis, near Québec City, at a cost of $840 million.
On May 5th 2008, Boralex inc. and Gaz Métro Limited Parnership (the “Consortium”) were pleased to announce that two of their proposed wind power projects of a total capacity of 272 megawatts, were selected following a call for tenders by Hydro-Québec.
On July 8th, 2009, the Consortium successfully completed the key step of environmental approval by obtaining the environmental decree from the Ministery of Natural Resources and Wildlife.
